About

Welcome to The Fireflies’ Classroom.  Here is where the fun happens!  We have pulled all of our activities out of FirefliesBlog.com and will start gathering them here for the coming school year.

We are passionate about providing children opportunities to grow their communication skills.   Teachers and parents will discover communication prompts many of which are based on the best of children’s books

The activities presented in The Fireflies’ Classroom are created based on the belief that every print, verbal and visual message has a sender and a receiver.

The goal is for children to  become fearless communicators.

Again – welcome!
We are so glad you found us.

God is a communicative God and because we are created
in His image – we were created to communicate.

I will be sharing some incredible resources for you – places for you to go to access more learning, activities and materials from our partners.

Some examples of activities we will be sharing:

Verbal Communications

  • Memorize and recite…
  • Interview a grandparent (verbal) and write a short family biography (print).  Our Thanksgiving communications activity.
  • Readers Theater
  • Radio Productions
  • Participate in simple skits, such as puppet skits – great family involvement!

Visual Communications

  • Look at an art masterpiece and discuss the message you see within the piece of artwork.
  • Create a visual message.   We will explain and give examples.

Print Communications

The difference between a simple writing program and print communications is that the following activities are created with an audience in mind.  Here in the Fireflies Classroom, we create a poem and put it to music; we write a story and “publish it” so that this treasure can be placed on the school library shelf or home bookshelf.

  • Create a poem (lyrics) and put those words to music.
  • Write a story and then use our themed template to finish the communication cycle and publish.
  • After your masterpiece is complete (visual), write a descriptive poem (print) and frame both for an upcoming easel talk.

Sign up for The Fireflies Classroom to be delivered to your email and then join us on this creative communications adventure through the delight of great children’s books.
